The group of performers that is Nolan Insignia started creating artistic motion pictures in 2008. These films were a mix of magick, folklore, scenes from Gothic literature and of course music from various decades. The aim was to create quirky art that explored an eclectic mix of music and magick as portrayed through the array of different characters seen in our works.
Performance Art
Songs we chose to sing were performed 'off the cuff' and without instrumental accompaniment. The theme was unscripted spontaneity - 'do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law'. The atmosphere surrounding the composition lends itself to the encapsulation of the art within mysticism, the art within horror and the art of humour, utilizing the emotion of each as means to create our artwork.
Influence
By sheer coincidence, singer and performer Lady GaGa was using a similar theme to ourselves and so we incorporated the essence of Lady GaGa into our performances. Laydee GooGoo himself leads the act having two very different side kicks - Lady Candlelight, a take on GaGa's former co-artist, Lady Starlight, and Lady Tickseed, named after the Tickseed flower. In a Jekyll and Hyde moment, Laydee GooGoo created an evil alter ego, Lady Garrote. Lady Garrote has her own supernatural website and indeed her own brand of art which is certainly not for the squeamish.
